The North American Refugee Health Conference (NARHC) is the largest global clinical refugee health conference. It is recognized as the premier conference for those who work with refugee populations. Health professionals and experts from many disciplines will meet to discuss best practices and challenges faced in the optimal care of the refugee patient population throughout their journey from predisposition before and during flight, to time in a refugee camp and subsequent migration or resettlement. Attendees will be able to share ideas, learn about the latest research on refugee health issues and advocate for better refugee health outcomes.

Important Dates

• Call for Abstracts Opens: Monday, September 17, 2018
• Call for Abstracts Closes: Monday, January 14, 2019
• Notification of Acceptance: Week of February 18, 2019
• Presenter Response: March 15, 2019
• Early Bird Registration by: Tuesday, April 16, 2019
• Conference Dates: June 14-16, 2019

All submitted abstracts will be anonymized and peer-reviewed by 3-4 individuals. Please note that submission of an abstract does not guarantee acceptance. Abstract submission may be accepted in the original format submitted, or moved to another category. For example, an abstract can be rejected as a workshop but accepted as an oral presentation.

Once notified of acceptance, the presenting author will need to confirm intent to attend and present at the conference. All presenting authors are responsible for registering for the conference and covering all associated costs.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

All Submissions MUST include:

Author(s) Information

1. Contact person’s given name, surname and affiliation (institution and/or organization name) and email address.
   Note: This person will receive all information concerning this abstract. It is his/her responsibility to communicate this information to the co- authors.
2. Principal/Presenting author’s information including – given name, surname and affiliation.
3. Given names, surnames and affiliations (institution/organization) of all other presenters/authors.
4. Abstract Theme (see Above, select only one per abstract submission)
5. Abstract Format/Type: (select only one per abstract submission) Workshop, Oral, Poster
6. For inclusion at the end of the abstract:
   Please identify level of experience for the targeted audience:
   Advanced (experts in the field)
   Intermediate (most practitioners currently in the field)
   Beginner (for those who have little experience in refugee health)

Please list target audience for abstract – for example:

• Family Physicians/Primary Care Practitioners
• Nurses, Nurse Practitioners
• Specialists
• Allied Health Workers
• Mental Health Workers
• Settlement workers
• Dentists
• Policy and Public Health Specialists
• Researchers

Please be clear and concise. Abstracts should be structured with subheadings to clearly display the required sections (see submission formatting below for workshops, oral and poster presentations).

Workshops

60 minutes total: 45-minute interactive presentation and 15 Minutes for questions

Note: Abstracts exceeding the maximum length of 250 words will not be considered.

Submission Formatting:

1. Title of Abstract
2. An abstract of a maximum of 250 words plus 3 key words.
   Abstracts should use the following subheadings:
   1. Background/Rationale – Describe the rationale for the workshop, drawing upon theory and/or evidence as applicable.
   2. Content – Describe the objectives of the workshop and 2-3 key points you will be making,
   3. Instructional Methods – Briefly describe the instructional methods to be used during the workshop.

Oral Presentations

15 minutes total: 10-minute presentation, 5 minutes for questions

Note: Abstracts exceeding the maximum length of 250 words will not be considered.

Submission Formatting:

1. Title of Abstract
2. An abstract of a maximum of 250 words plus 3 key words.
   Abstracts should use the following subheadings:
   1. Background and Purpose/Objectives of study or program/innovation
   2. Methodology – For research studies this should include study design, methods and analyses; for programs/innovation this should include development, implementation and evaluation
   3. Results/Impact/Outcomes
   4. Conclusions and Discussion

Poster Presentations

Note: Abstracts exceeding the maximum length will not be considered.

Submission Formatting:

1. Title of Abstract

Additional Details

If your abstract is accepted, you (and your co-presenter(s), if applicable):

• Are expected to register, pay & present at the Conference
• Must pay all expenses to present and attend the Conference (e.g., preparation of the poster, registration fee, travel, hotel, etc.)
